Frequently Asked Questions

Straightforward answers, in plain English, so you know exactly what you’re signing up for.

How does online therapy work in Pennsylvania?

We meet through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You log in from wherever you feel comfortable — your home, car, private office — anywhere you have privacy.

As long as you’re physically in Pennsylvania during the session, you’re good to go. No fancy equipment needed — just a device with a camera and decent Wi-Fi.

Many clients actually prefer telehealth because it reduces stress and makes showing up consistently much easier.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

You’re likely a great fit if:

  • You’re ready to actively participate in your healing
  • You want honest feedback delivered respectfully
  • You appreciate directness with compassion
  • You’re willing to examine your own patterns
  • You want to change behaviors, not just talk about them
  • You’ll actually use the tools we discuss
  • You want a therapist who believes in your ability to grow

You’re probably not a good fit if:

  • You need constant reassurance without taking action
  • You want someone else to fix things for you
  • You’re overly focused on diagnoses instead of growth
  • You aren’t open to hearing different perspectives
  • You want to vent without making changes

If we’re not a match, that’s okay. I’d rather be honest upfront than let you invest in something that won’t help you.

What can I expect in my first session?

The first session is all about clarity and fit — no pressure. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’ve tried before, what you want, and what you’re struggling with right now.

  • Your goals and hopes
  • Your background and current situation
  • Patterns you’re noticing
  • How I work and what to expect moving forward

You’ll get a quick sense of my style: compassionate, direct, nonjudgmental, and focused on helping you move forward.

If I’m not the right person for what you need, I’ll tell you honestly and help you find someone who is.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Yes. Research shows telehealth therapy is just as effective as in-person for most concerns — including trauma, anxiety, and depression.

People often prefer it because it’s comfortable, private, and easier to fit into real life. No waiting rooms, no commute, no unnecessary stress.

It’s not right for every situation, so we’ll decide together if it fits your needs.

Do you accept insurance?

If I’m out-of-network, I can provide a superbill for potential reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, so you’ll want to check with your insurance first.

I also partner with reputable telehealth companies to help process insurance claims.
This allows billing to be handled smoothly, quickly, and with less stress on both of us.
If you’re using insurance and you receive access to an additional portal, please know this is normal — it simply connects you with a professional billing team who can assist with questions or paperwork. It is not a scam or a third-party trying to sell you something.

Self-pay is also available if you prefer not to use insurance.

What’s your cancellation policy?

24-hour notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling. If it’s less than 24 hours (outside real emergencies), the session fee applies.

This protects my time and helps me offer that slot to another client who needs it. Emergencies happen — just communicate with me.

How long does therapy take?

It depends on your goals and how actively you engage. Some clients work with me for a few months; others stay longer for deeper trauma work or ongoing support.

I’m not here to keep you in therapy forever. I want you to build skills, grow emotionally, and eventually feel capable on your own.

Therapy moves faster when you implement tools between sessions. The work you do in your real life matters just as much as what we do in session.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. As an LPC, I can’t prescribe medication. If I think medication might support your therapy, I’ll be honest and help connect you with a prescriber.

Many clients do therapy with me while seeing a medication provider. It’s common and effective.

What if I need support between sessions?

You can message or email me between sessions for brief check-ins or clarification. I usually respond within one business day.

If you’re in crisis, call 988 or go to the nearest ER. I care deeply about your safety, but I’m not available 24/7.

Do you work with people of color specifically?

I’m a Black woman therapist, and many clients of color work with me because they appreciate not having to explain cultural context.

But I work with all adults who resonate with my style — direct, compassionate, growth-oriented, and ready to do the work.

If cultural competency matters to you, you don’t have to explain yourself here. If progress and honesty matter most, you’ll get that too.

What does “Affirmation Restorative Counseling” mean?

Affirmation Restorative Counseling — ARC. Like a story arc. Like a turning point.

Every person has a point in their story where things shift from falling apart to rebuilding. Therapy is where that shift starts.

My job is to help you find that turning point, understand it, and move forward with purpose and confidence. You don’t have to navigate it alone.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Not a formal one — but I’m happy to answer questions before you book. If you want to know whether we’re a good fit, reach out.

You’ll get an honest answer — not a sales pitch.
